Inis Nua and Simpatico Theatres welcome theater professionals to a Transgender Sensitivity and Inclusion training led by Phoenix Schneider, MSW on February 20th at 6pm at the Louis Bluver Theater. All members of the theater community (both individuals and theater companies) are welcome to participate in this opportunity to become better allies, advocates and theater-makers.
Objectives for this discussion are:
Learn about the current and evolving spectrum of gender
Learn about the unique needs of trans and non-binary folks
Learn techniques for identifying and navigating gender pronouns
Learn how to become better advocates and allies to trans and non-binary individuals
Understand a range of trans experience and how to incorporate trans experience and identities into your story writing and other forms of creative expression.
Learn about the resources available for trans, non-binary, and allied communities
About Phoenix:
Phoenix Schneider, Coach Phoenix, has worked in the nonprofit sector for the past fifteen years and has a strong background in program development, training, and direct services with transgender and non-binary communities. Phoenix has extensive experience designing programming and facilitating trans cultural sensitivity trainings for diverse audiences. Currently, Phoenix provides coaching, training, and programming for a range of institutions locally and nationally. As the Director of the LGBTQ Initiative with Jewish Family and Children’s Service Phoenix develops programming to meet the current and growing needs of the LGBTQ community in the Greater Philadelphia area. Previously, Phoenix worked as the Program Director with The Trevor Project overseeing a safety net of crisis intervention and suicide prevention programming to support LGBTQ youth nationwide. Phoenix also has experience co-producing a genderbending variety show and as a trans performance artist.
